Room 1 Round Up!
Week 5 has been another very hot week temperature wise and its great to see all the children bringing drinks of water to school each day. For our new parents, the childrens drink bottles may be placed on a tray at the door way for children to source whenever they need during their learning.
Munch and Read
Each day from 10.00pm to 10.10pm we have munch and read where the children are encouraged to eat fruit or healthy snacks. It has been really pleasing to see families taking responsibility for the elimination of commercial packaging from school lunches. The children have been learning the importance of recycling and how much waste rubbish comes from our school lunch boxes. It is truely alarming. Some food items that should be avoided are yogurts which don't keep particularly well and some items like fruit strings. The children tend to use this food as a toy which is not very hygenic.
This week we have completed our testing and we have been working towards our overnight experience. The children are really excited about this. Please get those forms back to us as soon as possible. Catering and final organisation does not want to be left to the final minute. While the farmers of the country are praying for rain, we are saying "Long may the weather stay hot and dry".
Homework Stars
Great stuff to all those children completing their homework. Even if not finished I would still like it handed in on the Friday to maintain good routines. As special mention for a top effort this week would go to Katie, Maaka, and Ruby for awesome ideas and great organisation.
Winter Sport Organisation
Information for Hockey and Netball will go home with your child this Thursday, 28 February. To avoid disappointment return the forms to the sports box as soon as possible. We will be taking names of children who would like to play Miniball ( Basketball) so that registrations can be organised for this code as well.
Some new dates to remember
Year 4 Girls Self Defense - Friday 15 March. This is for the girls only and for one day only. Alison Pike is a visitor to the school who leads this programme. Its great fun and the girls think they are marvellous.
Funky Fun - This is for Pūkeko Whānau. Our day is Thursday 11 April, hosted at the Tect Arena. Keep this day free. We will need transport and parent help. Its a great relaxing day of low key team sport where the emphasis is on fun and participation. Cost approx $7.00.
If you need to contact me, please feel free to do so.
Kind regards
Charlotte James
